Frequently Asked Questions
What counts as a validation?
Each email address submitted to the /validate endpoint counts as one validation. Batch requests count as one validation per email in the batch. Cached responses within the same billing period do not count against your limit.
Can I switch plans at any time?
Yes. You can upgrade or downgrade your plan at any time from your dashboard. When you upgrade, you get immediate access to the new plan's limits. When you downgrade, the change takes effect at the start of your next billing cycle.
Do unused validations roll over?
No. Validation allowances reset at the start of each billing cycle. If you consistently need more validations than your current plan allows, consider upgrading to the next tier.
What happens if I hit my plan limit?
The API will return a 429 status code when you exceed your monthly validation limit or per-minute rate limit. You can upgrade your plan at any time to increase your limits immediately.
Is there a free trial for paid plans?
The free plan itself serves as a trial. You get 1,500 validations per month with access to Tier-1 signals. This is enough to integrate BigShield into your signup flow and see the results before committing to a paid plan.
What payment methods do you accept?
We accept all major credit and debit cards through Stripe. Enterprise customers can arrange invoice-based billing with net-30 payment terms.
How does batch pricing work?
Batch requests count as one validation per email address in the batch. A batch of 50 emails counts as 50 validations. Batch endpoints are available on all plans, with the maximum batch size varying by plan.
Can I use test API keys for development?
Yes. Every account gets both live and test API keys. Test keys (prefixed with ev_test_) return simulated responses and do not count against your validation limit. Use them for development and staging environments.
